This weeks dig into the Yoshi stack at LTH Toproom was an unpacking of a box containing cassette tapes, CD’s, DVD’s ROM’s and VHS video.

As ever it was not at all clear what we might find. Half of the cassettes were prerecorded music from around the world and most of the remainder were unlabelled home recordings of various vintages. The cassette player here is a bit on the basic side but we can use it to wind through to get an Idea of what has been recorded without listening to it all. What we were hoping for are some recordings of Bach played on european church and cathedra organs he may have visited on route to the UK. So far there are none but the favorite is a C60 that has been used in a phone answering system that is full of messages to Yoshi from callers in late 80’s! We had a similar system running from that period and wonder where ours is now?

Within the pile of CD Rom’s we found a couple of gems where Yoshi is collaborating with Francesco Pestori‘s group to present O Project which involved custom costumes, dancing girls, sci-fi mastermind and features the ‘Virtual Woman‘ kinetic sculpture we have here alongside so many others. Check out the media mix and fast dancing from Yoshi at the end. Looks like everyone was enjoying the process and some electro science was carried out along the way.

During further work with the PhotoPrism we found a huge selection of addition images from backstage and with the performing actors and contributors

We also found a rare video interview with Yoshi at his home studio where he shows other kinetics and sculptures and ideas in process. The initial storage area on the balcony at LTH needs to cleared so the last of the boxes there will be sifted once again before the remainder of it will go out to recycling.
