Photographs

Yoshi photographed the world around him for at least 50 years. Until the late 90’s these were analog film camera images on 35mm, 6x6cm and 5x4inch formats. The digital image emerged as new standard for journalistic and creative photography which he adopted and adapted to suit.

The digital images are hosted and sorted on a vintage PC running PhotoPrism. It employs some AI techniques to extend the image metadata to improve searchability. The collections featured here in this blog span both eras. We are not planning to digitise all the analog photographs but report on their existence and illustrate the great variety. David Viey has reccently digitised a box of 2500 slides which took many weeks and there are more negatives still to be processed and annotated.

The last film cameras of 90’s yielded to the first Canon, Pentax and Sony megapixel SLR and later mirrorless cameras that he features in his studio blog. There he annotates the progress of experimentation as he explored mechanical, optical and impressionistic image making, sculpture and engineering and Buhdist theology in public life. His home was the studio with a darkroom in the bathroom, resource library in the kitchen and workshop for a living room.

There are collections of abstract, commission, documentary, erotic, event, landscape, portrait, research, street and travel photographs. There is a large collection of vintage, adapted, invented and contemporary cameras, tripods, lights and other studio accessories alongside many kinetic sculptures and fabricated artworks.
